When you have employees, you are legally required to pay their superannuation. Currently set at 9.5%, this will increase to 10% on 1 July 2021. Further increments of 0.5% will apply annually, up to FY26 when the super guarantee rate will be set at 12%.
All payroll softwares are set up to automatically include supers when you run the payroll. This is recorded in your accounts as a superannuation liability, which you have a legal obligation to pay to the super fund of your employees’ choice.
